2017 has been producing fewer new bands in the scene than most years, although we have a few months still to go and the groups that have emerged so far have been fantastic. This list takes us through some of those we believe to have made a big impact in their debut year.
Spot The Fool – Anyone that will have payed close attention to our radio show would have realised how excited we are about these young punks. We spoke to drummer Jacob McCullough on the show a few months ago and have been playing their tracks extensively. What makes these lads so special is their sheer enthusiasm and determination with their music. Despite being such a new young band, they have been running their own gigs regularly and have had two trips to the studio resulting in 2 EPs. At this rate, the sky is the limit for these boys.
Mongol Gentlemen’s Club – There’s not a lot that we all know about these guys but the hype is real. A few impressive live appearances and a teaser for what appears to be their debut track has got people talking and they’re saying good things. I look forward to getting the chance to see them next time they rock up in the City and there will be more than a few punters anticipating their first release.
Ember Trails – As a bit of a welcomed unconventional style change, this group the birth of their band by releasing their first EP and it seems to have been a master stroke as the reception for ‘Eclipse’ has been extremely positive and the band are now ready to embark on a succession of concerts that started on the 10th of June with the guys playing in a support slot in The Warzone Centre for Steady Decline.
